Affordability & Protecting Taxpayers
Keep Coquitlam affordable while protecting the services residents rely on.
- Keep property tax increases reasonable and predictable.
- Review spending carefully and focus first on essential services.
- Make better use of grants, partnerships and development revenues before putting additional pressure on taxpayers.
- Ensure growth contributes its fair share toward the infrastructure and amenities it requires.
- Support a competitive environment for local businesses and employers.
- Look for efficiencies before introducing new spending.
- Plan major capital projects responsibly and transparently.
- Protect long-term financial stability rather than passing today’s costs to future taxpayers.

Responsible Growth
Growth needs to work for the people who already live here as well as those who will call Coquitlam home in the future.
- Ensure roads, utilities, parks, recreation and community facilities keep pace with new housing.
- Advocate for transportation improvements that reduce congestion and improve connections between neighbourhoods.
- Protect the character and livability of established neighbourhoods as the city grows.
- Support a range of housing choices for families, seniors, renters and future generations.
- Make sure new development includes appropriate community amenities.
- Expand and improve parks and off-leash dog areas as our neighbourhoods grow.
- Improve pedestrian safety, sidewalks and connections to transit.
- Plan growth around the actual capacity of infrastructure and services.
- Work with the Province, TransLink and other partners to secure Coquitlam’s fair share of transportation and infrastructure investment.
Environment & Livability
- Protect Coquitlam’s tree canopy, streams and natural areas as development occurs.
- Expand tree planting in neighbourhoods where canopy is limited.
- Protect creeks and waterways from the impacts of construction.
- Expand practical access to EV charging as the city grows.
- Design neighbourhoods where parks, services and everyday destinations are easier to reach.
- Make environmental decisions practical, measurable and financially responsible.
Coquitlam context: Coquitlam is adapting its planning framework to provincial housing requirements, including transit-oriented development and small-scale multi-unit housing. Safe & Strong Neighbourhoods
People should feel safe, connected and supported in every Coquitlam neighbourhood.
- Ensure police, fire and emergency services have the resources needed as our population grows.
- Improve road and pedestrian safety, particularly around schools, parks and busy intersections.
- Support visible and effective enforcement where safety problems persist.
- Maintain parks, trails, playgrounds and recreation facilities to a high standard.
- Improve accessibility so residents of all ages and abilities can participate in community life.
- Support seniors in remaining active and connected in their neighbourhoods.
- Support families and seniors and keep recreation accessible.
- Increase opportunities for children and youth through recreation and community programming.
- Support local organizations, volunteers, cultural groups and community events that bring people together.
- Strengthen local businesses and community organizations.
- Continue investing in emergency preparedness and community resilience.

Accountable & Responsive Leadership
Residents deserve a City Hall that listens, communicates clearly and follows through.
- Make it easier for residents to understand how and why major decisions are made.
- Provide clear reporting on major projects, budgets, timelines and cost changes.
- Strengthen opportunities for meaningful public input before major decisions are finalized.
- Be accessible to residents throughout the entire four-year term, not just during elections.
- Respond to neighbourhood concerns and follow up when residents raise issues.
- Measure results so residents can see whether City initiatives are actually working.
- Encourage collaboration among Council, residents, businesses and community organizations.
- Bring practical community experience to City Hall and remain focused on outcomes.
